About Me

I was born in England and have lived in Ottawa, Canada for many years. After a long career teaching visual art to both elementary and high school students, I now devote my time to painting.

My work has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows in Ontario and England, and I have received several awards in national and international competitions. I am currently a member of the Art Hub Gallery in Carleton Place and was previously an active participant in the Foyer Gallery in Nepean.

My paintings continue to be inspired by the landscapes, people, and places around me, as well as by the experiences gained through travel.

Artist Statement

Colour, light, and movement are the starting points for my paintings of landscapes, streetscapes, and figures. I work primarily in acrylics and am especially inspired by the changing seasons and open landscapes of rural Ontario.

I usually begin a painting with a general idea or composition in mind, but the process often evolves as layers of paint develop and the image begins to emerge. One of the most rewarding moments in painting is when the work starts to take on a life of its own and moves in an unexpected direction.

Many of my paintings are inspired by the countryside where I live, with its wide spaces and distinct seasons, so different from the landscapes of England. Travel has also influenced my work, and I am often drawn to capturing the character and atmosphere of places and people encountered along the way.

My paintings capture the energy, colour, and atmosphere of everyday scenes, revealing the beauty and vitality that can be found in ordinary places.
